The Experience

Bicheno Penguin Tours operates nightly tours departing at dusk from our base located in the centre of Bicheno.

At Bicheno Penguin Tours, our friendly team will check you in before a short bus ride takes you to our private penguin rookery. Established over 30 years ago by rehabilitating farmland into penguin-friendly habitat, the rookery is a special place where you can witness the unique behaviours of little penguins in their natural environment.

Your experienced guide will accompany you on a walk through the rookery, sharing interesting facts about penguins and their habitat while also discussing the steps we can take to protect and improve the lives of these wonderful birds. The tour involves walking approximately 700 meters over 50 minutes, allowing plenty of time to observe the penguins.

We are committed to providing our guests with an unforgettable and educational experience while promoting the importance of conservation. Join us for a tour of the penguin rookery and discover the wonders of these amazing creatures in their natural habitat.

Why Us:

At Bicheno Penguin Tours, we are proud to operate the only penguin tour on Tasmania's East Coast. We have been working tirelessly to restore the local penguin colony to its former glory through ongoing habitat creation and security measures. Your input and support are crucial to our efforts to improve and protect the penguin habitat for generations to come.

Our penguin tour offers the safest and most responsible way to observe these incredible creatures. The rookery was established on rehabilitated farmland, which allowed us to create well-lit pathways in a penguin-friendly colour spectrum prior to the penguins' arrival. This makes walking in the dark both easy and safe for both visitors and penguins alike.

During the tour, our knowledgeable guides will provide you with a deeper understanding of the little penguins and their unique behaviours in their natural habitat. We take great care to ensure that our tours are educational, enjoyable, and respectful of the penguins and their environment.

Join us for a penguin tour and experience the magic of these amazing creatures while supporting our efforts to protect and conserve their habitat.
